Yes you can! Draw a pencil portrait
Updated: May 14
You really can learn to transform a favorite photo into a quality drawing. My step-by-step tutorial walks you through the whole process, from start to finish.
1 sheet of card stock or watercolor paper
1 pencil (I use a mechanical one)
A good eraser (I use a clic eraser)
RulerCopied/printed version of the photograph you’d like to use (don’t use the original - you’ll need to mark it)
A note on choosing a photograph:
Closeup photos of faces make the best portraits - and also makes your job easier as the artist (less things going on)!
Choose a photo that is clear and has a high resolution so you can see lines and details clearly.
Crop photos to get an even better closeup. But if you crop make sure it’s still the approximate size of the frame (wether you choose vertical or horizontal).
