Rise Again

  • The story behind this piece

Icarus and his father tried to escape from Crete by flying off the island with wings made of wax and feathers. Icarus was warned not to fly too high or too low, to make sure his wings survived the flight. But he flew too high, the wax melted, and hubrisbrought him crashing down.

Icarus’ failure was fatal, but ours need not be. After epic failures, we must have the courage to rise again. It’s our own stories of success and failure; let us be like a child swinging back and forth, day-dreaming images into the clouds. The child is unafraid of failure and he lets his imagination take flight. It’s only the dreams of the persevering dreamer that become reality.
